SHARE Counselling is a free service specialising in the needs of young people from 13 to 25.
We can offer you the opportunity to explore difficult and often complicated
issues in a confidential and supportive way with a trained counsellor. The aim
is to enable young people to become more self-confident and able to make well
informed choices about their lives.
Initially up to six one hour sessions are offered on a weekly basis, at one
of a number of young people friendly location across Cornwall. A counsellor
can also be seen at some schools and colleges. An appointment can be made through
the SHARE shops at St Austell, Camborne, Penzance, Newquay and the Chestnuts at Bodmin or on freephone
0800 181033. Appointments are available during the day on most weekdays and
a limited number of early evenings.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SERVICE
The Objectives of the counselling service are to:
• Deliver a quality counselling service in schools, colleges and the community at a number of selected locations across the county
• Be client led
• Offer clients both an educative and empowering experience
• Be widely accessible to young people aged 13 to 25.
• Where possible offer a first appointment within three weeks of an initial enquiry
• Be free at the point of delivery
• Offer an assessment of client need plus six counselling sessions using a time limited/brief therapy model. Further sessions can be agreed if needed.
• Offer a very high level of confidentiality, details of limitations of confidentiality are prominently displayed at all SHARE centres, in counselling rooms and can be obtained on request from the counselling administration office.
• Have a team of qualified, experienced and counsellors in training
• Be as far as is possible independently supervised
• Operate within the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy
• Offer a number of placements for counsellors in the latter stage of their training
The Aims (for the clients)
As the result of engaging in a counselling contract the young person will be more able to:
• Have an awareness of the factors that influence their lives
• Gain an insight into what triggers their feelings and emotions
• Take more control over their own lives
• Understand how their behaviour patterns impact on other people
• Develop strategies for managing inappropriate behaviour
• Develop a greater sense of self awareness
• Increase their self-esteem
• Make informed choices on issues that affect their lives
• Have increased self confidence
• Access other support services where needed
