What is the ‘You’re Welcome’quality criteria?

In 2005 the Department of Health published the ‘You’re Welcome quality criteria – Making Health Services young people friendly’. The quality criteria was developed with input from EEFO and covers nine topic areas: accessibility; publicity; confidentiality and consent; the environment; staff training, skills, attitudes and values; joined-up working; monitoring and evaluation, and involvement of young people; health issues for adolescents; sexual and reproductive health services. ‘You’re Welcome’ is a government initiative referred to in the ‘Choosing Health’ White Paper which is to be rolled out as a national accreditation for quality standards in young people’s health care. Just recently it was agreed at the Children and Young People Strategic Partnership that EEFO will be the mechanism for delivering the Quality Criteria set out in ‘You’re Welcome’ in the county. EEFO Level 2 and Level 3 quality standards are currently being developed in consultation with young people. The intention will be that once a Service has been validated as reaching Level 3 of the EEFO Quality Standards, that Service will be compliant with the National ‘You’re Welcome’ Standards.
