So you like television!
Well, EEFO has been reviewing the best TV sites available on the web. It was a difficult job because there are so many, so what we have decided to do is to review the ones that are linked to the most popular channels. (We thought that YOU might know of some of the lesser-known ones and you could email us their addresses, maybe with a review!)
A truly MASSIVE site! We had to send a search party out for one of the EEFO team who disappeared somewhere between the Science section and the Teens stuff. Luckily they emerged unscathed clicking their way through the Top of The Pops pages! Apparently her journey had taken her through over 300 different sections - from the News (which we expected to find on a BBC site) to a shopping section, www.beeb.com (which we didn’t expect to find on a BBC site!).
We reckon that the Homepage and the News site (including the Regional BBC sites) look a bit dull and grown up - a bit like the BBC news on telly really. However, some of the other sites, like the Top of the Pops one, actually look quite funky. Well, in a BBC way at least.
Enough about the look of the site, what about the content? We have to say that it is very good - top quality, up to date and very, very comprehensive. A word of warning though, don’t try to look at the whole site in one sitting - even if you spent only 1 second per page, it would take you over 17 days to look at all 1.5 million pages of it! And that’s with no interruptions - not even for bed or the loo!
A first impression to us at EEFO was that this site is a bit confusing to navigate around. It also looks a bit ’cheap and cheerful’ into the bargain. However, with perseverance, it actually has a lot of interesting stuff on it. The site has links to all the major programmes, their related sites and a TV guide, plus some quizzes too.
Question: What’s the most annoying thing about ITV programmes?
Answer: The adverts!
The website has its fair share of these too!
This is the site that comes from the people that put together Children’s ITV. It is certainly eye-catching and is packed with stuff to keep you amused - competitions, chat, safe surfing, features on programmes and loads more. It has a membership system that you really need to sign up for in order to get the most out of the site. Watch out though, because it can be quite slow!
Wow! What a slick looking site! You just have to try out the navigation system on the Homepage. We are not entirely sure that it functions as well as it looks - what do you think? This site is full of links to different programme sites, as well as a fair amount of its own information on the more popular ones.
This site is a lot more lively-looking than the Channel4 one and it has a bigger emphasis on the fun side of things. For example, there are more competitions and more games.
A very comprehensive site, with not only links to other sites to do with Sky programmes, but also a comprehensive news section too. Don’t be put off by the Homepage, which we think behaves like an advert that doesn’t take you anywhere useful! Once we discovered the navigation system, we were very impressed by the site!
From the Nickelodeon channel, a site for those without sensitive eyes!! It’s so eye-catching, it hurts! That aside, it has details on all the top programmes, plus lots of fun stuff, like games, quizzes and competitions.
