Sex - It’s OK to say "No"

Sometimes young people have sex when really they don’t want to. Often young people say:

" They didn’t know how to say no
" They didn’t find it a pleasurable or enjoyable experience at all
" Now that it’s happened once they’re afraid they’ll be expected to have sex all the time

Lots of reasons are used to try and persuade young people to have sex. Here are some of the most common ones:

" There must be something wrong with you because everyone else is having sex
" You know that I really love you and if you love me you’d want to have sex
" I’ll be careful
" You want to really

There’s nothing wrong with you for not wanting sex. Not everyone is having sex either. Its also worth remembering that loving and caring for someone is about respecting their feelings and wishes. Its not about trying to persuade them to do something they don’t want to do or don’t feel ready for yet.

Sometimes it seems as if having sex is on the list of things you must do when you go out with someone, regardless of how long you’ve been seeing them or whether you really have any feelings for them or not. It doesn’t have to be like that at all, its entirely up to you, and its totally acceptable to say ’No’
