A Success Story - An EEFO.net user's Story

Between 1998 ish to 2000 ish I was having regular therapy sessions due to a breakdown in family relationships. I was involved with this service from about ages 14 to 18, although when i was 18 i was working as a volunteer for the service.

I spent time in foster care and had tried to take my life on a number of occasions.

Although my weekly sessions felt like a great release I didn’t feel particularly encouraged in my ambitions. Although I was still at school I had high dreams of going to university and I was often told to forget about those hopes as it was unlikely I would achieve them because I wasn’t well enough.

Well, I ignored this advice, went on to achieve 10 GCSE’s, 6 A levels and I graduated in October just gone from the university of winchester with a Batchelor of science in Psychology and Social Care.

I had little support the whole time doing this, but just kept pushing myself forward.

Whilst at uni I was involved in a mission trip to Burkina Faso in Africa where I worked with street children and orphans on an humanitarian and medical basis. This October I will be doing the same work in the orphanages of Romania.

So I guess really I just wanted to tell you about my success story. It didn’t go unnoticed that my future looked very bleak, often uncertain. I was an incredibly unhappy person for a variety of reasons which I never tried to explore with the team of people working with me, through fault of mine.
