Labelling to get noticed
The Government has introduced food labelling to make us realise what is in food, to make us more aware of healthy options.
The food standards agency has come up with a system which is based around traffic lights Green, Amber, and Red spots, e.g. green is low in fat and saturates, amber is medium in salt, and red is high in sugar.
Poor diet and dieting can lead to strokes, obesity, heart disease, and all kinds of problems not only physical but mental also that is why it’s important to bring awareness to everyone.
Is this the right way to get people eating healthily or even help make the right choices?
Personally I think to begin with I didn’t know what saturates are, I do now only because I looked it up on the internet but if I was out shopping I would not be able to do that. Saturates are oils containing saturated fatty acid, the thing is I still don’t understand it. I am from a background where I never learnt anything like that. So my question if I am interested where would I learn this? For example:
When the labels say it’s got 2.0g per serving of salt, ok that’s great, how much salt am I supposed to have a day, a week or even a year for that matter? Also the same question asked about sugar, fat, and saturates, and again where do I learn this?
The picture used for the Food Standards Agency was boring its not colourful, you can hardly see it its not appealing to me as a 16 year old.
As a young adult someone telling me to do something I would not do it.
If its more appealing more fun lots of colour bigger and clearer you may get your point across that you are trying to help them help themselves.
What logo would you like to see on you food to make it easier to understand?
